Older Properties In London Have A Greater Need For Emergency Plumbers

February 4th, 2010

When people live or work in older properties the property is naturally more inclined to need a plumber in London more often that a building that is relatively new.

Often, because of the age of the drains on an older property, it is common for those who live there to need an emergency drainage company or emergency plumbers in London to fix burst water pipes.

A good plumber in London will advise those who live in or own an older property that is a good idea to reguarly check their water pipes for corrosion and damage.  This is in order to prevent an often expensive need to call upon emergency plumbers to fix what could end up being a larger job if the pipes are left to burst.

Additionally, a good plumber in London will tell you to keep your eye on rust that appears on water pipes.

Since it is common for water pipes to burst if they are subjected to extreme temperature changes, it is common for an already aging or rusted water pipe to burst when subject to these temperature fluctuations.

Burst pipes, however, are not only exclusive to older and more brittle piping it is just more common in these cases.

Always Keep Your Water Pipes Lagged

February 2nd, 2010

Emergency plumbers in London are being kept busy particularly in the winter months not just from blocked drains and frozen pipes but also from flooding which has started to affect various places in the UK.

Whilst it is has proven difficult to prevent flooding in certain areas of the country it is far easier to protect your household pipes from freezing up.

One of the most efficient ways of preventing bursting and frozen pipes in your home is by lagging your pipes both inside and outside of your home. Many people will remember to lag their pipes outside their property, however, often forget to protect the pipes in their loft.

Even with the insulation in your loft it can be just as cold in this area as it is outside and therefore, your pipes are very susceptible to freezing and bursting just as much as they are outside.

If you get a burst pipe it can mean hefty repair bills and a fast call to emergency plumbers it is also very dangerous. Most home owners will not notice a burst pipe until they hear the sounds of dripping water and it can cause your fuses to blow.

Not only does a burst pipe in your London property mean a call-out to emergency plumbers in London, but it can also cause serious electrical accidents and in some cases serious injury to the occupiers.

At IQ Plumbing Services we have professional trained emergency plumbers who can deal with any type of plumbing problem quickly and efficiently.

History of the British Drainage System

January 29th, 2010

Interestingly enough, if engineers from the Victorian era had not possessed creative and exceptional engineering skills then our drainage system today would be much worse than it actually is.

Of course, we all still suffer with blocked drains and a range of drainage problems, however, things could have been a lot worse than they are today.

Joseph Bazalgette was a chief engineer at the London Metropolitan Board of Works in the 19th century. Following his time as a railway engineer in the Royal Navy, Joseph gained a huge amount of experience in land drainage over his career.

Due to the constant cholera outbreaks which happened during the mid 19th century,
London’s Metropolitan Board began improving the London sewers. By 1866, a complete London sewer network has been designed and installed by Joseph that covered the majority of the city of London.

Joseph’s drainage design meant that waste water which came from old sewers and underground rivers was diverted to the Thames embankment treatment works.

He then began training other engineers in the United Kingdom who then were able to update each drainage system which existed under the surface of their British towns in similar ways.

We at IQ Plumbing Services have over 12 years of successful trading with the provision of emergency plumbers in London who are all professionally trained and able to respond immediately to any plumbing emergency. We have been voted as one of the best emergency plumbing companies in the city of London for 5 years running.

UK Flooding Issues Make Emergency Plumbers in London Scarce

January 27th, 2010

November and December 2009 saw major areas in the South East of the United Kingdom completely under water from flooding with homes, businesses and properties seriously flood damaged and some beyond repair.

Due to the extreme weather conditions and aging subterranean drainage system in the South East of the country the demand for emergency plumbers in London hit new heights. Once again as the winter months drew in so did the flooding in this part of England ,resembling a similar situation to that which occurred in 2008.

Emergency plumbing issues were still occurring throughout London (as they would do normally), however, emergency plumbers in London were scarce because of their relocation to aid flooding matters in the wider English region.

No matter what is happening in the country when you require emergency plumbers you still need to be able to call upon professional help as soon as possible because your own situation is just going to get worse.

For instance,if you are experiencing flooding in your own home from blocked drains it is often an issue that you cannot fix yourself and will require the location of blockages in water piping deep underground through the use of a CCTV camera.

For reliable emergency plumbers in London at any time of the year we at IQ Plumbing Services provide a fast and efficient plumbing service which includes fixing burst water pipes, clearing blocked drains and most other plumbing issues.

We have a large team of plumbing experts who are fully trained to deal with all emergency plumbing situations quickly.

Check That Your Emergency Drainage Company is Reputable

January 25th, 2010

Should you find yourself in the sudden position of needing emergency plumbers in London, no doubt you will want to be sure that you are dealing with a professional company that you can put your trust in.

Plumbers these days need to be highly qualified in order to provide certain plumbing services and it is acceptable for you to ask them for proof of this.

When you ring emergency plumbers there is normally a charge for call-out and this fee will reflect the time it has taken to deal with the entire plumbing emergency which you have. Should you be charged a high fee from emergency plumbers then it is clear that they are profiteering from your emergency situation and it is sometimes considered to be an unethical business practice.

A reputable business that can provide highly trained emergency plumbers will trade from a registered address; have a company registration number and a land-line telephone number.

Your emergency drainage company should be available to you at all times and if it is a good business it will have a 24 hour hotline for peace of mind in emergency situations.

We are the experts at IQ Plumbing Services and have been trading for over 12 years with huge success. We have a large number of professionally trained emergency plumbers in London which means there is always a qualified emergency plumber available when you need one. Our company has been considered as one of the best quality emergency plumbers in London for over 5 years.

When You Really Need an Emergency Drainage Company

January 23rd, 2010

Often when an emergency drainage company is called out to clear blocked drains, it is normally the case that congealed bathroom or kitchen waste needs to be flushed out because it has accumulated in the drain. If your drain is completely blocked it and you continue to run water it will come back through your piping and flood your home.

There are other times when blocked drains are caused by far more complex problems and what you should never try to do is to force the blockage through the pipe manually- should you attempt this it could cause your drain to collapse.

Some of the most common problems dealt with by emergency plumbers in London include:

• Fractured piping – a structural defect which is often caused by pressure from either building work or flooding above ground. Cracks covering the drain will seep water that will destabilise any surrounding ground. This problem needs urgent attention because it will cause subsidence and eventually completely collapse

• Collapsed drains – there are many things that will cause this which range from contractors mistakenly drilling into a pipe, dangerous flooding and increased traffic passing over the road above

If you can avoid any of these plumbing problems, do so. It is better to take preventative action rather than wait for an emergency situation to develop.

We at IQ Plumbing Services have a large number of emergency plumbers in London who can deal with any plumbing problem and can also carry out routine CCTV checks on drains, to ensure there will be no plumbing emergencies in the future.

Necessary Qualifications for Emergency Plumbers in London

January 22nd, 2010

When someone attempts for the first time to tackle a plumbing job themselves, they begin to realise how difficult it can be and why plumbing is considered to be a highly skilled job.

In recent years the technological advance in plumbing tools, equipment and systems including training courses has meant that it is necessary to pay attention to all aspects of the plumbing trade.

At the very least, emergency plumbers in London (and any other type of plumber) are required to have a minimum qualification of a City and Guilds NVQ level 2.

Emergency plumbers in London who hold a City and Guilds qualification are at a standard where they are considered council accredited professionals. A plumber who has taken a City and Guilds exam will be qualified in:

• Installation of domestic copper pipe work

• Maintenance and sanitary installation

To be considered legal to work on the UK, water supply plumbers need to have obtained the ‘Water Supply Regulations 1999’ certificate which also sees those who have obtained this certificate also registered with their local authority.

Plumbers will also need to have been trained in ‘Unvented Hot Water Storage Systems’ to legally enable them to work on high pressured systems that do not have a storage tank.

We at IQ Plumbing Services have a long trading history and are able to provide the most highly trained emergency plumbers in London who are able to tackle any type of plumbing problem with considerable speed and unparalleled efficiency. Our emergency plumbers in London have the certificates, but they also possess the necessary experience.

Repairing Water Pipe Leaks

January 21st, 2010

The majority of plumbing problems will occur near fixtures such as toilets and sinks, however, sometimes the water pipes themselves can turn out to be the root of the problem. Water pipes are temperamental objects which are prone to sweating, freezing, leaking and making loud noises.

Whilst there is always a professional emergency drainage company or emergency plumbers on hand to deal with blocked drains or plumbing problems it will also save you time and money if you check whether your leak is coming from a joint first.

If the leak is coming from a joint which you have already located then the obvious thing to do is to tighten that joint – this is easy.

If, however, the leak is located inside a water pipe then the leaking section needs removing and replacing with a new pipe section. This is not always easy to do though particularly in the case of threaded galvanized steel pipes which will tighten at one end of the pipe automatically as you attempt to unscrew a section at the opposite end. Copper piping requires new sections of pipe to be sweat-soldered into place

When it comes to sections of water pipe being replaced it is always a job that is best left to a professional plumber to avoid any huge problems.

Our team of emergency plumbers at IQ Plumbing Services are trained to the highest degree and we can provide a large amount of emergency plumbers in London so there is always one on hand to come to you quickly.

Knowing Where Your Water Stop Valve Is

January 20th, 2010

Your home’s plumbing system will certainly be composed of two completely separate subsystems.

One of these subsystems will bring freshwater into your home and the other will take the waste water out.

Any water that comes into your home will be pressured to enable it to travel around your home such as to your bathroom upstairs and around corners. When this pressured water passes into the house, it will also run through a water meter which will register the amount of water that you have used.

Generally, the main water valve to shut down the supply will be located close to your water meter. If you find yourself in a position where you need to contact emergency plumbers because of an urgent plumbing problem you must also quickly turn the main water valve off even before your emergency plumbers arrive. If you don’t shut down your water supply after a pipe bursts, for example, it is likely to completely flood your home quite quickly.

Should your plumbing emergency be confined to a toilet or sink it won’t be necessary to turn off your water supply completely and you will be able to in most circumstances just turn the water off at the stop valve which is used for that particular fixture.

When it comes to emergency plumbers in London, we have a professional team of emergency plumbers at IQ Plumbing Services who are highly trained to deal with any plumbing emergencies quickly- including blocked drains, burst pipes and another similar other issues.
